Mending and quilting…

Mending mistakes…

I went from this:

to ripping back just the cable section…

To reknitting the cable section…

And it worked!

The goofy sleeve is goofy no more and there is hope that I may leave Sleeve Island someday after all.

I’ve long been wanting to try my hand at quilting and since I have been at Joann etc no less than 3 times in the past week, I picked up a cute “Cuddly Quilt Kit.” There is some cutting and use of a rotary cutter, which I found quite fun, and some beginner quilting.

The quilt is for a new mom & baby- I thought I would break the mold of pastels and make them somthing funky. And for 20 dollars it’s quite an economical gift as well. I just hope there isn’t some crazy thing about babies not being subjected to bright colors until a certain age….

This pattern did not call for it and was backed by heavy flannel- but I wish I had thought ahead and done batting anyway. The next quilt I make will have batting in it. I have my eye on the patchwork quilt from Amy Butler’s book, In Stitches. It will be a task to find coordinating fabrics- but I think that is part of the fun of quilting. The quilting section of fabric stores have walls and walls of different shade and patterns of color…. a true view of the spectrum. I can hardly wait!

We had some visitors last night… some suitors for Miss Mercy. They got along pretty well, although there was a squabble or two over the position of the couch and the possession of a rawhide. Makes me wish we had two dogs! But then again, Mercy is more than enough excitement for us!

  1. Good job on re-doing the cable! That takes, guts, or a stiff drink, or maybe both! I’m not sure I’d tackle that, I’m a big chicken.

  2. Ooops, – LOL, sorry, I must have just posted a comment on my daughter’s blog. “Mommy” is actually me, Lynda!

  3. Wow. That’s some impressive cable surgery. Well done. Cute mini-quilt also. I might try my hand at something like that for a ‘first sewing project.’

  4. It worked! I was waiting to see how the cable turned out.
Love. The. Quilt. The colors are great, perfect for a little bitty.

  5. Cable 911! Very impressive. I don’t know that I would have had the stomach for it:) Good for you! Love the fact that Mercy had her own little soiree hee hee….

  6. Thanks for your comment on my blog! I am hugely impressed with Cable 911! Wow – I agree with Marisol – not sure I could attempt that!
I love your quilt fabrics – very very nice! Have an awesome day!

  7. No worries about babies and bright colors- they actually prefer them! I love the fabrics. What a cute kit! Good job on your cable fix.

  8. What cable work!! Really great! And..nice, cute quilt!

  9. Great correction on the cable! The last time I dropped a cable column, I ended up reknitting almost an entire sweater. I love the baby quilt. And don’t knock a lighter blanket, I didn’t have enough light blankies for my son. Of course, as a quilter you have to try your hand at it. Cute pups!

  10. The quilt is so fun! I think everyone enjoys some bright colors and patterns, esp. this time of year. Glad you were able to mend that cable without frogging. Can’t wait to see what you do next!

Mercy looks like she’s having lots of fun with her friends (as long as they don’t touch her rawhide). 🙂

  11. Wow you are so brave to just rip it out like that!

  12. I LOVE those fabrics! If I were the new mom, I’d be thrilled with a gift like that.
