Lake Placid

We traveled to Lake Placid this past weekend as Keith was participating in the Half Marathon there pm Sunday. It’s a six hour drive from out house so I had plenty of time to work on the baby sweater from Last Minute Knitted Gifts. The Lorna’s Laces is working out perfectly and I think/ hope/ pray that I won’t have to buy another skein.

The scenery is breathtaking and the town is just adorable.

We even had a chance to visit some of the Olympic sites. Our favorite was the ski jumps, where the US Ski Team was practicing in the summer doing their flips and twists, landing into a giant pool instead of snow. It was unreal!

We were somewhat saddened later that evening when we were dining at the same restaurant as some of the skiers… Olympians are the people that you just expect to be these upstanding citizens- not smoking & drinking & being incredibly rude and  obnoxious to the wait staff.  I was very surprised by the smoking thing though, but I suppose that ski jumping does not require the kind of lung endurance that a runner would need.

Stay tuned for tomorrow… pregnancy diaries!

  1. The jumper (sweater) looks really cute. I’m sure it will look really adorable on.

In Australia, they only have a ski jump ramp into water. Its the only way they can train. I don’t think they’ve ever made one on snow. (We do have snow in Australia, just not that much. Alot of people go to New Zealand to ski.) Have you ever been to the Olympics (summer or winter)?

  2. I have been to Lake Placid and it really is beautiful. Shame about those athletes, though. I always expect them to be upstanding too- especially the amateurs. Pros always let things go to their head.
